WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

PAKOWHAI BRANCH. MONTHLY MEETING. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the Pakowhai Women’s Institute at their monthly meeting held last Thursday. Mrs Parker presided over a fair attendance and opened the meeting with the singing of the Institute song. After the business had been disposed of, r number of really beautiful posies, which displayed considerable artistic talent in the members, were set out to be judged. After searching criticism Mrs Cushing was a popular winner, two members gaining an equal number of votes for second place. Then followed a most practical and useful demonstration, by Mrs L. W. Goldfinch, of Havelock, of cake-icing. Every description of decoration was fully explained, and it must have been gratifying to the demonstrator to notice the keen interest taken in every detail by all present. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Goldfinch at the close of her demonstration. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Mesdatnes Stanford, Russell, McCann, White. Miss White and Miss Mary White. The meeting then closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
