THE WOOL MARKET
first sale this month. A MORE OPTIMISTIC TONE. With the first Auckland wool sale only three weeks ahead, speculation on the quality, price to be realised, and quantity of this season’s. clip is the topic of conversation in Auckland wool circles (states the “N.Z. Herald. ) The auction will take place on hiovember 28. . . , “I notice a surprisingly good standard in the quality of this seasons wool which has come to hand from the North Auckland and Waikato districts,” said Mr B. J. Marquet, president of the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association. In spite of the hard winter experienced in the central parts of the North Island, the wool had not suffered, although it was somewhat late. Ono store manager said the arrival of new wool had been slow, owing to the number of held-over bales being sent in for the first sale, and also the slight setback that shearing in the Auckland province had had during the past few weeks of inclement weather. “However, tho returns should show a weekly total of 300 bales and over if tho good weather holds,” he added, “and I am sure the total will be well up to last year’s quota.” The number of bales offered at the wool sale in November, 1930, was 20,600. The prices during the past few weeks, particularly in Australia, have shown a decided upward tendency, and there is a more optimistic tone in the market generally. This is in sympathy with the better prices ruling for other produce, particularly wheat.
