TE POHUE-TUTIRA ROAD

COUNTY CONTRIBUTES TOWARDS COST. At the Hawke’s Bay County Council meeting to-day a letter was received from the District Highways Council asking if the council would be prepared to make a contribution toward the cost of the work on the Te PohneTutira road. Cr. Bennett said that any amount voted should come from the general fund of the council. The road when opened was likely to become a highway of considerable importance. It was stated that the road would be of value only in the case of the railway being opened up, but as far as the East Coast Tailway was concerned he was satisfied that it would be resumed again before long. The chairman agreed that the road when opened would be of value to settlers in the driving of their stock. The council agreed to contribute the sum of £3OO toward the cost of the work from the general fund.
