NO NEWS YET

REPAIRING HASTINGS P.O. NEARLY A YEAR’S DELAY. According to an official statement obtained by the “Tribune” this morning, it appears unlikely that anything will be done towards repairing the Hastings Post Office before the New Year. Tenders have been called, but do not close till the last week in the present month, and it is officially stated that the announcement of the successful tender will not be available until Christmas. Though there is no official information to go upon, it is assumed that if that announcement is not made until Christmas, the work of repairing the building will not begin at loast before January. Thus almost a year will have gone by since the earthquake. In the meantime many people must, wonder as they pass the damaged building whether the wall in Russell street is really safe. Certainly to the nonexpert it looks precarious, and its crooked alignment must cause apprehension to many people who walk by it. It is twisted in several directions and altogether looks really dangerous, despite the fact that beams have been propped against it to buttress it.
