PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

McDougall defeats MARSHALL. A POINTS FCISION. Auckland, Aug. 24. The professional wrestling contest at th» Town Hall to-night, between Scotty McDougall and Bocky Marshall was won by the first-named on points, after each had secured a fall. McDougall gained the first fall in the fourth round with a partial cradle hold with his legs. Marshall evened up in the seventh round with a short arm scissors. The contest was hard, but was not spectacular and was witnessed by an attendance below the average. BURMISTER AND LUNDYN MATCHED. TO MEET IN HASTINGS. A meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Wrestling Association was held last evening, the chairman, Mr S. J. McKee, presiding. On the recommendation of the Match Committee it was decided to match George Burmister and Alex. Lundyn for September 4. As these two matmen have not previously been matched in New Zealand, a good contest is confidently expected. The matter of putting on a benefit contest for a family in distress was brought forward by the chairman, and it was decided tentatively to book the Napier Drill Hall for October 12, a promise having been given that benevolent organisations in Napier will lend all the assistance possible. It was left to the Match Committee to try to arrange for suitable matmen for the contest. COMPLAINT ABOUT CONTESTS. Wellington, Aug. 24. Objecting to what he regarded as brutal and unsporting methods, a ratepayer wrote to the City Council asking that stricter control be imposed regarding wrestling matches in the Town Hall, the use of which, he says, should be debarred unless the sport is conducted on better lines. The letter was considered by the council to-night. The Mayor said he had asked the police to see that the rules and regulations were strictly complied with. If they were not the council would take drastic action. It was not proposed to take other steps. This was agreed to.
