H.B. SPRING SHOW

OCTOBER 21 and 22 STANDARD TO BE MAINTAINED The Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s spring show will take place this year on Wednesday and Thursday, October 21 and 22, and it is safe to say that notwithstanding the disastrous times the province has been passing through, the many supporters of the society will do all possible to maintain the standard of the show. It is indeed' unfortunate that such a disaster and depression should follow on last year’s Royal Show, as no doubt under normal conditions many of the new exhibitors to the district would have been back in full force. It is realised that travelling to any great extent will be considerably curtailed, and the society looks to local breeders to support the show to the fullest extent possible. The schedule, which will be issued in a few days, is based on the 1929 schedule, with considerable additions. One of particular interest to Hawke’s Bay sheepbreeders is a class for three ewes under 18 months, for unregistered sheep any breed or cross, to be judged for meat and wool combined. The exhibits will be shorn on the ground and then judged on pointe and the fleece also judged by an expert and the award based on the combined points. The object of the elaes is to improve the breeding ewee for the dual purpose, which is of such vital importance to Hawke’s Bay in particular. A similar class is also included for two 4-tooth or over dry or wet flock ewes. In the former class a valuable challenge cup is offered. A number of classes have been added in the cattle section and more particularly in the purebred dairy cattle sections. Members of the Hawke’s Bay Kennel Association have been putting a lot of work into the dog section and have obtained a very attractive list of cash special prizes and trophies. The schedule fox this section is issued separately from the main schedule and copies will be posted to aily dog fanciers interested.
