ONAKAKA IRON CO.

PRODUCTION LAST YEAR. STATE BOUNTY OF £9836. A total of over 9000 tons of pig .ron was produced by the Onakaka Iron and Steel Company, of Collingwood, Nelson, during the last financial year according to a return presented to the House of Representatives. The return shows that production totalled 9044 tons 17ewt. of pig irOx and the bounty paid by the Government amounted to £9836. The bounty is paid from the Conolidated Fund under authority of the Iron and Steel Industries Act. 1914, which was enacted for the purpose pf encouraging the manufacture in New Zealand of iron and steel. Prior to April 1, 1930. the sum of £26,456 was paid to the Onakaka company in respect of 20.120 tons of pig iron pro duced.
