A London cable reports the deatlj of Lord Stanley Alderley. The many friends of Mrs. B. B» Kirkland, of Hastings, will bs pleased to hear that she is now progressing favourably after her recent operation, One of Feilding’s most prominent citizens, Mr Ernest John WackrilL died suddenly on Thursday, aged 58 years. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Bledislos, aeeomj panied by Lady Norah Jellicoe and Lieutenant Elworthy, R.N., A.D.C, are on an unofficial visit to Nelson and are guests at Weinui House. The death occurred in Dunedin on Saturday night, at the age of 78, of Mr Roderick Mackenzie, formerly licensee of the Excelsior Hotel, and n member of many Scottish societies in Dunedin, reports a Press Association message. Earl Jellicoe arrived at Qua, beo on Saturday from London en route for Toronto to pre, side at the fifth biennial conven, tion of the British Empire Service League opening on September 9. A salute of nineteen guns was fired. He was given a warm welcome by a distingulshed gathering of military veteran officials. The staff of the Wanganui Techni, cal College met last week to farewell Mr. W. B. Sutch, M.A., before hie departure from the college to undertake economic research under a fellowship at Columbia University, America. A presentation was made and wishes expressed for his success. Mr. Sutch left at the end of ths week for Wellington. The curacy of St. Paul’s Pro-Oathe. dr al, Wellington, rendered vacant by the departure of the Rev. W. G. Par. ker for England, has been filled by the appointment of Mr Gordon M. McKenzie, 8.A., a member of the staff of the Cathedral Grammer School, Christchurch. The new curate will ba ordained by Bishop T. H. Sprott, and will enter on his new duties later in the year. The death occurred in the Malay States ou August 14 of Mr A. C, Bishop, aged 26, a former pupil of Wellington College and Boots College, and a nephew of Mrs J. Aston, of Wellington. Cables advioe was received by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, from the Governor of Sin. gapore, and his Excellency I advised deceased’s father, the Rev. E. Bishop, of Panmure, Auckland. The late Mr Bishop apparently received fatal injuries in an accident while at work. He was a licensed surveyor, and had been engaged for four years by the Malay Government. Deceased would have been here for furlough next February.
