TEN-ASIDE TOURNEY JUNIOR BEP. MATCH. On account of the absence of the Hawke ’« Bay representatives in Auckland, the only senior Rugby games which were played in Napier and Hastings on Saturday were ten-aside matches for the Corbett and McNight Shield, which was won by Hastinga H. 5.0.8. In Napier the junior representatives met and defeated Wairarapa junior representatives after rather a poor game. Lower grade matches were also played in Napier and Hastings. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES. . H.B. AND WAIRARAPA. Although they showed superiority in the forwards, the Wairarapa junior representatives who played the Hawke’s Bay juniors at MeLean Park did not possess the same finish in the backs and they were beaten rather badly by 16 points to throe. The game was remarkable for the number of injuries which were sustained by players; end the continual stopping of the play, combined with the fact that the standard attained was. not very high, did not provide much interest for the spectators. Hawke’s Bay—Crawford, Kenny, McPhee. Gloyne, Ireland, Renonf Hodge, Hannigan, Thompson. Cooper. Minett, Large, O’Brien, Hoiuieybun, Skittrnpp. Wairarapa.—J. Henderson, Wright. Osborne Brooks, Hoskirg 8. Henderson, Clarke, Rosyth Dicksson. Elder, Seivers. Lockwood, Laing Brazerdale, Percy. ’ A good line kick put Wairarapa on the attack, a series of scrums taking place on the home line. Thompson managed to clear from one of these scrums, bnt Brooks accepted the ball and ran in-field. He was tackled, but in the ensuing play the visitors were awarded a free-kick in a handy position, 8. Henderson turning it to good account with a penalty goal. Wairarapa 3 Hawke’s Bay 0 Hannigan put the home side on the attack with a good kick, but Wairarapa relieved, and their' backs and forwards went down the field throw, ing the ball about to the home goal. They were pulled up by a scrum, from which Hannigan and Ireland broke away and cleared to half-way. A back movement gained ground for Hawke’s Bay, but Brooks took a mark in front of the goal and saved for Wairarapa. Thompson, Hannigan. O’Brien and Gloyne participated in a movement which put the home side on the offensive, and the backs carried the ball on. The effort broke down at Ireland, but the ball came Kenny’s way and he forced his way down the line to score near the corner. O’Brien failed to convert. Hawke’s Bay w 3 Wairarapa 2

Wairarapa took play to the Bay twenty-five, but they were driven out when the home backs got going. A scrum in the Green twenty-five saw Hodge, Renonf, Ireland, McPhee and Kenny handle, but when on the line Kenny dropped his pass and a good chance was lost. The home side kept up the pressure and from a scrum on the Green line Hannigan forced his way over to score near the posts. Renouf converted. Hawke’s Bay 8 Wairarapa 3

When Crawford missed a high ball the Green forwards broke through to the home line, but they were soon driven out when the ball came the way of the Bay backs. Hawke’s Bay kept up the pressure and when in a good position O’Brien was given a chance at goal from a penalty which he was successful with and the halftime sounded soon after with the score; Hawke’s Bay 11 Wairarapa 3 Hawke's Bay went straight into attack, taking play to the visitors’ corner. In a hard scrum the home side were penalised and the visitors gained a few yards by kicking into touch. A further kick to the sideline took them beyond the quarterway. Playing along the line Wairarapa invaded the home territory. The visitors were breaking away well when Crawford held them up temporarily. Good work by the home forwards from a line-out on their own twenty-five took play to halfway where Hodge cleared from a scrum, sending the ball out to Kenny, who covered a quarter of the field before being tackled. The advantage gained by the Bay was shortlived as the Greens’ forwards, with the ball at their feet, swept down-field to gain to the home goal-line, where play was held up through injury to a visiting player. The best piece of play of the day then followed. Hannigan set the Bay backs going to sweep straight downfield for Large to score a wonderful try in the corner. O’Brien converted with a great kick. Hawke’s Bay 16 Wairarapa 3 Stung by this reverse the visitors immediately rushed play to the home corner where a penalty was given against the Bayites. Hosking had a shot at goal but the ball went a little wide. Following up the kick-out Hawke’s Bav took play to the visitors’ territory. From a scrum Hodge sent the ball out to Kenny who kicked into touch at the corner flag. The Magpies were unable to penetrate and the visitors nuicklv raised the siege. The ensuing play was very even, each side striving to increase the tallies, but time was called with the score reading: Hawke’s Bay 16 Wairarapa 3 Mr. A. Ellis refereed.
