GAMES IN HAWKE’S BAY BEWLEY WINS NEW YEAR TOURNEY, RESULTS OF SATURDAY’S PLAY. Splendid weather prevailed for bowl ing in Hawke’s Bay on Saturday, when all greens were Well patrnoised. The final of the New Year tourney was won by Bewley (Hastings). On other greens the various week-end club competitions were continued. RINKS TOURNEY. The final of the East Coast rinks tournament was contested by Hastings (Kummer, Laker, White and Bewley (s) and St. Leonard’s (Wallace, Raeburn, Schofield and Godber (s). On the eighth head Bewley was leading B—l, and increased his lead to 10—6 on the eleventh head. Godber made a good recovery and on the eighteenth head Bewley was leading by only three points. Tho next three heads went to Hastings, but St. Leonard’s made a groat fight at tho finish and secured five points to bring the score to 23—20 in favour of Bewley. The president of the Centre, Mr Somerset W. Smith, at tho conclusion of the play congratulated both win ners and losers on the fine performances put up and called for cheers for both rinks. The tournament, he said, had been a most successful one. He paid a high tribute to the work of tho Centro secretary, Mr P. Bear, for tho arrangements made. Ho also congratulated Mr Benton, of tho Wairere Club for the splendid green prepared for tho tournament. Nothing bettor could have been desired. A hearty vote of appreciation was passed to the ladies of the Wairere Club for the lunch and teas provided for tho players each day. Mr Smith nlso asked for the support of bowlers in giving a welcome to the Canadians, at Hastings on January 14. Mr Bewley returned thanjes for the congratulations received and called for cheers for the runners-up. This brought a very successful tournameut to a close. HASTIINGS CLUB.
