Two women were killed and three others injured, one critically, when a car was struck by a train at a level crossing near Newport, Victoria. Six deaths from car smashes in the different States and one drowning complete the week-end toll. Eight people were injured when a double tram crashed into a stationary tram at Balmain. Many others suffered shock. Many women fainted. Both trains were damaged.
