BERTHING OF VESSELS
QUESTIONS AT HARBOUR BOARD MEETING. “Was there any reason why the Canadian Transporter did not go to the wharf?” said Mr. J. C. Bryant at to-day’s meeting of the Napier Harbour. “I have no information at all,” said Mr. A. E. Jull, "but as far as draught is concerned the boat could have entered the Inner Harbour. As regards her length, she could not go in just yet.” Mr. Lyon: Mr. Bryant would like to know also why the Corinthic did not berth at the Breakwater (laughter) Mr. Jull: The harbour master has stated that he wonlS not bring in vessels exceeding 480 feet in length. Mr. Bryant: The reason is that there is not the wharf accommodation. Mr Jull: I saw where one of the Napier papers stated that the Rangitiki could have come to the Breakwater (laughter). It is not right to mislead the public in that way. The statement was quite wrong—the Rnngitiki could not be brought in.
Mr Creagh: You aje quite right; such n thing was most misleading, hut the question about the Canadian Transporter is another matter. The matter was then referred to the harbour master to report.
