LATE SIR JOHN FINDLAY
TRIBUTES IN SUPREME COURT. (Per Prest* Association.) Wellington, Dec. 11. - Warm tributes to the late Sir John Findlay were paid on behalf of the Supreme Court to-day. On the Bench were Chief Justice (Hon. A. M. Myres) and Mr. Justice Blair, and those present included Sir Francis Bell, Mr. Fair, Solicitor-General, Mr. Gray, K.C., and Mr. Page, S.M.
Sir Francis Bell referred to Sir John Findlay’s appointment as Attorney-General and Loader of the Legislative Council when Sir Joseph Ward first became Prime Minister, and eulogised his work in that direction. He created the office of King’s Counsel in New Zealand, and was himself one of the first appointed to that position by Order-in-Council. His part in the administration of the law was marked by real distinction, and his political career, brief as it was, was a brilliant one. Sir Francis also spoke of Sir John’s attitutes as a private citizen. The Chief Justice dwelt on Sir John’s eminence in the legal profession, his scholarship and culture.
