THE 28-ACRE BLOCK
NAPIER COUNCIL NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DELAY. CR. HIGGINS’ SUGGESTION. “There is no undue delay and tho council is doing all it can to push the matter forward,” said Cr. P. F. Higgins at last night's meeting of the Napier Borough Council, when the Napier Harbour Board wrote stating that it could not understand why the council had deferred consideration ot the matteis referred to in the board's letter of November 14 last until the January meeting of the council, seeing that the board was doing its utmost to place on the market as early as possible the 28-aere block.
The Town Clerk (Mr J. Dick) pointed out that the agreement between the two bodies had been that everything would be discussed, at the meeting to be held in January. The Mayor: 1 think that we should take no notice of the letter. Cr. Higgins: The council’s attitude has been so misrepresented to the public that I feel that the Town Clerk should be asked to make a statement showing that the delay is not undue and not altogether the fault of the council. Ido not think it fair that one local body should make statements to the detriment of another. The board was a party to the agreement in the first place, and cannot claim that what has been done has been without its knowledge. The hoard is simply seeking to place some guilt on the council and make out that it is suffering considerable loss as the result of what the council has done. Cr. Mayne: I understand that this matter was deferred until January to see what could be done to meet the board.-
The Mayor; There is nothing to be gained by starting the wrangling all over again just for the benefit of the public. No action was taken regarding Cr. Higgins’ suggestion.
