CROSS-CHANNEL FLIGHT MADE IN SPITE OF STOBM. ACCIDENT IN N.Z. (United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 10, 11.15 a.m.) London, Dec. 9. When Saturday’s gale suspended the boat and aeroplane cross-channel services, Mr A. Butler, chairman of the De Haviland Company, and Mr Nigel Norman, Director of the Airport, determined to occupy their ringside seats at the Camera fight in Paris which they had booked for them selves and their wives. They set forth in their own Gipsy Moth ’planes amid the rain-laden tempest and reach ed Paris with their wives at dinner time.
Terrific bumps shook the ’planes, and would have thrown the occupants from their seats if they had not been strapped in. They were the only aerial channel crossers on Saturday. TWO CHILDREN INJURED. (Per Press Association.) Te Aroha, Dec. 10. While taxing downfield preparatory to taking two children for a flight from the property of Mr P. Goodgellow at Waihou yesterday afternoon, the pilot of the Blackburu Bluebird machine had the misfortune to strike a boundary fence. The ’plane toppled over the fence, resting on the right wing and crumpling it, and smashing the propeller blades. The two passengers were injured. John Crowsdale, aged 12, has a deep cut on tho right knee and wa£ removed to the Waikato Hospital. Kathleen Wayman, aged six, received head and face injuries.
