WEDDING

SHERRY—HUGHES. 1 (By “Stella.”) A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Matthew’s Church, Hastings, last evening, when May Hughes, who was given away by Mr. W. Burden, of Hastings, was married to Ernest Sherry, of London. The Rev. C. Mortimer-Jones officiated, and Mr. C. Spinney played the wedding music. The bride looked very sweet in a model frock of ivory georgette (the gift of Mrs. Jones, “The Vogue”). The frock was made with a closefitting bodice, and a softly gathered and flared skirt relieved with silver lace, which fell from a butterfly bow and brilliant buckles at the back of the waist, forming a Jight train. The lovely hand-embroidered veil (lent by Mrs. H. Barden) was caught into a cap with a Spanish fan effect at the back of the head, with sprays of orange blossom. White satin shoes were worn, and a bouquet of white roses, agaleas, and lily-of-the-valley was carried. Miss Hazel Barden was bridesmaid. The dainty frock worn was of pale pink georgette, with a close-fitting bodice and skirt flounced, falling in points into an uneven hem-line. The picture hat had a silver crown, and pale pink brim, with a spray of pink flowers. A lovely bouquet of pink azaleas, roses, and lily-of-the-valley. with pink streamers, was carried, and silver shoes, and a dress ring (the bridegroom’s gift) were also worn. Mr. Percy Walden carried out the duties of best man.

After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. W. Barden entertained about 40 guests at the Zetland tea-rooms, where the tables were decorated with pink and white flowers, with the two tiered iced cake before the bride and bridegroom. Mr. H. Barden proposed the health of the happy couple, who left later by car, the bride travelling in a model frock of Queen Mary blue georgette and lace, with a hat toning in colour, and a fawn tweed coat, fawn shoes, and fox fur.

Mrs. W. Barden was in a smart dress of beige crepe-de-chine and lace, with a beige hat; and her beautiful bouquet was of red roses. Others present included:—Mr. and Mrs. H. Barden, Mr. and Mrs A. Jones. Miss Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. Haworth, Mr. Barden snr.. Mrs. Harril, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Walden. Mrs. Walden senr., Mr. und Mrs. W. Meads.
