UNPOPULAR PRINCE
DISCONTENT IN MONACO. SERIOUS DISTURBANCES FEARED. [United Press Association—By Cable— Cooyright.) [Australian and N.Z Press Association.] (Received 26, 9.40 a.m.) Monte Carlo, March 23. Discontent with the Government of Monaco has taken a new turn. Five hundred Monegasques, despite a few warning shots, broke down police resistance and formed a procession to the palace, shouting: “Down with Prince Louis 1 Down with the constitution!” Louis, repenting his first refusal, received the deputation, He afterwards issued a proclamation that elections would be held in June. This seemed to appease the demonstrators
(Received 26, ll.lt) a.m.) Prince Louis has left for Paris. A proclamation is now issued cancelling the promises regarding the elections. The withdrawal has aroused anger, and the people are demanding the dismissal! of Rene Leon, director of the casino. Further disturbances are feared.
