Price) reported :— Hatuma Riding.—General work has been carried out in this riding, trucks having delivered 55 cubic yards of screened shingle to main highways. The power grader has been engaged raking in shingle and cutting waterchannels with the offset grader. In the near future the Marakeke roads will be attended to and I would suggest calling tenders for the metalling of this road as the job is more suitable for teams than the trucks, and would be carried out at a little less expense. Plans for lengthening Chalmers’ culvert have been returned approved and the work will be proceeded with as soon as monetary authority is received from the Highways Board. Subsidy amounting tn £lB2 18/5 has been forwarded and received—£l32 17/5 on the NapierWellington road and £5O 1/- on the Hatuma-Matamau road. Mt. Herbert Riding.—The contractor has practically completed the work of widening on ‘Wanstead road and trucks have been engaged metalling the job, 240 yards of screened shingle having been delivered. The power grader has worked six days raking in shingle on Wanstead road and a gang has been engaged lengthening culverts, etc. Maintenance subsidy amounting to £l9O 6/5 has been received for work on the main highways last quarter. Purimu Riding.—Slips have been attended to on Robinson’s road and Flemington road. Owing to the wet weather nothing has been done with regard to the work authorised cn Robinson’s road last month, but I hope to complete this at an early date
