Damage running into many thousands of pounds sterling was caused by a fire at Mnree, which started in the Royal Hotel and spread to other buildings. It is reported that three hotel, two chemists, two booksellers and fruiterers' and other shops have been gutted. Water supply failed under the tremendous pressure imposed on it, and the electric light also gave out, The townspeople fought gamely against terrific odds.
