HAVELOCK NORTH.

TENNIS CLUB MEETING.

SUNDAY PLAY AUTHORISED. A general meeting of the Havelock North Tennig Club was held in the Town Board office last evening, Mr. G. M. Head being the chairman. The balance-sheet of the recent dance showed a net profit of £7 51-. a very creditable result. With a view to raising funds for paying off the debt to the Bowling Club it was decided that the secretary (Mr. H Smith) should approach the Hastings Orphans’ Club to see if they could assist in a concert which the club, proposes to hold shortly. After much discussion it was decided that the Havelock courts should he open for playing on Sunday. This subject was lengthily debated but it was finally agreed that the club would considerably benefit by permitting the courts to bo opened then. A short discussion followed on reduced fees. Two new members Miss E. Wilson and Mr. G. M. Head, were elected to fill the vacancies on the committee. CROQUET DANCE.

A very successful weekly dance was held on the Havelock North croquet' lawn last evening. Owing to the overcast moon it was necessary to make use of the electric lights which had been suspended along the green. The rustic arbours had been decorated with gold and red paper, giving a fairy-like effect to the lawn, The evening being warm the soft-drink and ice-cream stall was greatly patronised. Excellent music was supplier] by the members of the Havelock orchestra, and several extras were played by the Misses E. Wilson, R Reed. L. Millar, and Mr.. Ned Barrett.

For those not wishing to dance, cards were the order of the evening, and a happy time was spent in the pavilion where a card table had been erected. Mr. W. Meads capably earned out the duties of M.C. and a dainty supper was served by the ladies of the club.

The concert that was to h-je been given by the Hastings Women's Choir on Monday next in the Have, lock North \ illage Hall has been Postponed till Monday week. December 10. All tickets already sold will lie available for that night. The Havelock North Swimming l lub advertises in this issue that classes in swimming and lif-> saving will commence at the public Luths on Monday evening at 7 o'clock, this should he of interest to citizens generally and it is hoped that there will he a rood muster of intending members of both classes.
