(Received 1. 11.25 a.m.) London, Nov. 30. The final ceremony for the confirmation <>J the new Primate was held in Dick Whittington Church, Bow Church, Cheapside, before a court of seven bishops, presided over by the Bishop of London, in the presence of the Lord Mayor and aldermen. Dr. Lang took the oath of allegiance, and the court then considered the objections from the Proteitant Alliance, several clergy,
and also from J. Kensit. Most of the objections complained that Dr. Lang tolerated Romish practices and approved of the use of the 1928 prayer book, despite its parliamentary rejection. Another said that Dr. Lang was unsympathetic towards the principles of the Reformation, and encouraged mediaeval usages and doctrines. When the objections had been heard, Bishop Ingram announced the court would proceed with the confirmation as no legitimate objections were entered.
OBJECTIONS IRRELEVANT. The Court held that the objections were irrelevant as they only questioned Dr. Lang’s fitness for office. Dr. Lang took the oath of allegiance to the King kneeling. He then stood up and pronounced the declaration against simmony, assent to the Thirty-nine Articles, the Book of Common Prayer and the Church’s dbetrines. He then signed them, using his official title “Cosmo Cantuar,” for the first time. Thereafter the Bishop of London formally inaugurated the Primate by announcing that the Court confirmed the election and Dr. I>ang became St. Augustine’s 97th successor. He held no the Canterbury Cross in his left hand, faced the congregation and pronounced his blessiong.
Mr. Kensit. after the ceremony, distributed “No Popery” pamphlets in the street, but in view of the annoyance given to the recipients the police intervened.
