The residents of Mangatahi and district entertained Mrs F. A. Jackson and her daughter, Jean, at a social in the Mangatalii schoolroom last Friday evening, on the eve of their leaving to take up their residence in Hastings. There was a large gathering of ladies and gentlemen, and a very pleasant time was spent. In the course of the evening Mr J. Graham, on behalf of the residents, asked Mrs Jackson to accept a handsome chiming clock as a small mark of their esteem and affecton for her and as a remembrance of her hanny associations with the people. He said he need scarcely assure her of the best wishes of everyone for the happiness and prosperity of herself and her daughter, who had also endeared herself to the community. He then presented Miss Jackson with a silver vase, wishing her every good luck, health and happiness in her future. After a very’ enjoyable few hours the assemblage dispersed after singing “Auld Lang Syne.”
