SEVERAL IMPROVEMENTS MOOTED. RECOMMENDATIONS OF COMMITTEE. The following recommendations of the Library Committee were approved of by the Hastings Borough Council last evening, and will’be given effect to:— That book supplies be procured from the local booksellers at such times and in such quantities as may be considered satisfactory and necessary.
That in order to facilitate the work of the librarian, a subscribers’ register be obtained at a cost of £3 or £4. The librarian reported that six chairs were required immediately. These were authorised by the Selection Committee and the chairs were purchased for £2 2s. It is recommended that the action bo approved. The sileneo and time limit notices in the reading-room were obliterated when the library was renovated, and it is recommended that new notices be procured and hung in the readingroom. It is not considered advisable to repaint these notices on the walls
It is recommended that the I’own Clerk make enquiries regarding the privileges of members of the New Zealand Association of Librarians in the matter of price of books purchased.
The librarian reported that during the month fifteen new subscribers joined and 22 left the library, leaving the presc-t totals at: Adults 610, children 367. The sum of £2B 12s had been banked. Forty-three books were placed on the shelves during the month.
