ANOTHER MISHAP
ON THE MAIN TRUNK
GOODS WAGGON DERAILED. EXPRESS SERVICES DISORGANISED. (Per Press Association). Marton, September 28. The derailment of a goods waggon on a slow mixed train, at about six o’clock yesterday evening, two miles north of Marton, resulted in a halfmile of the track being damaged and the Main Trunk service being badlv disorganised. Breakdown gangs appeared earlv. and by 9.30 the line was sufficiently cleared to enable the trains to proceed to Marton, whither the passengers were taken by motor ’bus in order to connect with Wanganui Palmerston trains.
The northbound Main Trunk exTress and also the night northbound Limited were held un until two o'clock this morning. Being coupled the southdown expresses were onlv slightly delayed. The other services are normal.
The cause of the derailment is unknown. A similar mishap occurred in that vicinitv some months ago. The waggon which was derailed lelft Taihape in good order, and the line at the scene of the accident was tested only yesterday. No great injury was caused to the track which is now in good order again. |
