WAIPUKURAU. COUNTY COUNCIL MEETS. The Waipukurau County Council met on Saturday. Present: Messrs. A. C. Russell (chairman), L. M. Monckton. J. H. Kibblewhite, B. J. McCormick, W. T. Edgecombe, MTansey, and A. W. EUiott. An application was received fropi R. A. Kyle for permission to. graze a road on his boundary, playing a nominal rental, and erecting gates at both ends.—Application refused. In response to an inquiry, the Waiaukurau Borough Council wrote informing the County Council that the number of children in the Waipukurau county using the dental clinic was 51.—The chairman pointed out that the total number of children was 276. On his suggestion it was resolved to hold the matter over until next meeting in order to see what amounts other local bodies were contributing. The Waipukurau Borough Council wrote asking that the recent action of the Minister of Railways in asking the local bodies to pay half the cost of maintaining a crossing keeper at the Ruataniwha street crossing should not be endorsed and that a representative of the County Council be appointed to confer with the Borough Council The chairman stated that he had spoken to Sir George Hunter, M.P-, on the matter and he had said that the railway authorities were quite agreeable that no costs should be borne by the local bodies, but it was the Cabinet which was anxious for the local bodies’ assistance. The chairman was appointed to meet the Mayor of Waipukurau (Mr McLean )and ask him to call a public meeting. The engineer (Mr R. B. Price) reported The approach to the new Marakeke Stream bridge on Rangitoto road has been completed, but will no doubt require a little attention from time to time as the filling settles under traffic. Middleton road is in need of about 50 yards of red metal for patching. This i4 could be carried out when the road dries. Tangatupara road and racecourse road have received attentionThe grader has worked four days on main highway and tucks have delivered 53 yards on main highway. As accumulation of rubbish against the centre pier of Stratford’s bridge gives trouble every year and' when once lodged there is difficult to remove. With a heavy flood there is always a danger of the current undermining the pier and the additional weight carrying it away. A cheap and effective method of overcoming this difficulty would be the placing of a vertical boom.
