Naval Appropriations

Third American Bill expected to be passed. CRUISER PROPOSALS APPROVED. (By Cable-Press Assn.-Copyright.) (Received 4, 10.10 a.m.) Washington, Jan. 3. The third Naval Appropriation Bill, carrying 324,394,680 dollars, which is nearly ten millions below the present appropriations, was reported to the House and is expected to be duly passed. Taking heed of the President’s request for economy, the committee asked for no appropriations for the three cruisers and two giant dirigibles and left the navy personnel at the present figure of 82,500. The recent proposals for ten cruisers were approved. President Coolidge stands independently in another bill calling for no actual appropriation funds, hence the present situation. There is no actual demand for money for new lighting craft, though it may develop as the session progresses.—(A. and N.Z.)
