STUDENT CHRISTIAN UNION.

TRAVELLING SECRETARY’S VISIT. The members of the Student Christian Union of the Hastings High School accorded Aliss Eleanor Sewell, travelling secretary for the New Zealand Student Christian movement, a most enjoyable social on the occasion of her visit to the school. The function took place last Friday evening in St. ALaLtliew’s Hall, which presented a brilliant and striking spectacle, its many coloured streamers toning harmoniously with the Hocks of tne gay and happy throng, many of whom wore fancy dress. Ihe evening opened wn*h a grand march, which was lodowcd by amusing games and competitions, together with a little dancing. Aliss iay lor, drill mistress of the school, gave an interesting exhibition or lolkuancing. Aliss Sewell, in an address, described the splendid work being done to-day by tne Student Christian World Alovement among the students in nearly every country or the world, and also the aim of the school-girl camps held annually at Alahora House, Waikare. The committee then served a dainty supper, during which songs were rendered by Helen Whyte and Linda Garret. Mrs Penlington presented the prizes to the winners, viz.: Alost original costume, Dot List (Rival Blues) ; prettiest costume, Joyce Wright, Hawaiian Girl; game of nation’s competition, Edna Carpenter; split proverbs competition, Bene Sands. The perfectly enjoyable and merry evening terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.” i.'he guests of the evening were Aliss Sewell, Air. and Mrs Penlington, Aliss Grant, Deaconess Holmes, the lady members of the staff, and the leaders of the Union last year. The Al.C.’s were Peggy Whyte, Zoe Donkin, Dot List, and Frances Verry. The affair was organised almost entirely by the girls themselves, and the greatest credit is due to the committee and to all who so generously gave their help in making it such a brilliant success.
