Coastal Strike Ceases VICTORY FOR OWNERS. VARIOUS EMBARGOES LIFTED. [By Cable-Press Association—Copyright.] (Received 31,10.25 a.m.) Sydney, Mar. 31. The decision of the seamen to resume work on coastal vessels constituted a victory for the owners. Th o strikes will have to wait until vacancies occur in crews before they can re-enter the service. The decision caused a surprise in shipping circles, as the seamen had emphatically stated at the beginning of the strike that they would not resume duty until the owners had dispensed with the services of volunteers. The seamen also decided to lift the “black’’ embargo placed on vessels of the Newcastle and Hunter River Company. It is expected the waterside workers will also declare the strike off at the weekly meeting to-day.—(A. and N.Z.) WATERSIDERS RESUME WORK. Adelaide, March 30. The watersiders at Adelaide have declared the overtime strike off and have resumed work. NEWCASTLE COLLIERS’ ULTIMATUM. Sydney, March 30. The colliery engine drivers in the Newcastle coal field have sent an ultimatum to the proprietors that if the latter do not grant a conference within seven days to discuss a number of the men’s grievances they will cease work. This would mean a general stoppage of all collieries in the State, involving thousands of employees. CAMB Rio GE SPORTS VICTOR lES. MOTORS MAKE OXFORD SLACK. London, March 29. Newspapers comment on the remarkable series of sports victories of Cambridge over Oxford, including the boat race, sports, Rugby, golf, bpxing and billiards, though it was predicted that Oxford would sweep the boards with the aid of Rhodes scholars, who are the pick of dominion and American talent. Some critics, say too many motor cars at Oxford are making training slack.— (A. and N.Z.)
