RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WELLINGTON’S GRADE SCHEME. Wellington, March 30. Although the Wellington Rugby Union decided to institute a grade scheme in senior football when it came to setting out the details there was so 1 much conflict of opinion as to the best method ,that it ended in a resolution more or less nullifying the proposal altogether. Those clubs which feared relegation to the second division fought strenuously against any grading and, after a long struggle, gained their point to the extent that it was agreed that for this season “A” grade should consist of the present senior clubs, and the “B” grade of any others offering. It was immediately pointed out that so far from improving the present unwieldy system, this only made it worse, upon which further resolutions were passed to the effect that next year the “A” grade should he limited to ten clubs, and the “B” eight, the lowest in “A” to go down to’“B.” Practically the decision of the annual meeting is shelved for a year. ANNUAL COLLEGE MATCH. TO BE PLAYED AT LANCASTER PARK. Christchurch, March 31. At the joint request of the headmasters of Christ’s College and Boys’ High School, this year’s Rugby match will be played at Lancaster Park on Jiilv 7th.. but a letter to the Union states that subsequent matches will be played on one or other of the school grounds.
