PUKAHU.
(Own Correspondent.) A very pleasant evening was spent by those who braved the elevsnts on Friday evening, the occasion oeing a kitenen gift evening, given to Miss Ivy Lean of Longlands, who is to marry Mr Ralph Heywood at Pukahu Church 0* Wednesday evening next. The evening was passed in dancing and progressive ouchre for non-dancers, the music for the dances being played bj' Mrs Harold Taylor in her usual sympathetic manner. Mr R. Taylor made an efficient M.C. A dainty supper which was much appreciated, was supplied bj r the ladies. After supper, Mr H. Taylor, in a few well chosen words, asked the bride-to-be, to open the parcels, commenting on the generous manner in which Miss Lean had always come forward and helped with any project that would lien efit the school, and wished her the very best of luck in her wedded life. The parcels on being opened, weie •found to contain a various assortment of useful kitchen utensils and in onty one instance was an article duplicated. At the conclusion, Mr Ralph Heywood, on behalf of Miss Lean, thanked those present for their useful gifts and the evenirig concluded with the singing 01 “Auld Lang Syne,” and three heartycheers' wore given for the prospective bride and bridegroom, and for the pianist, Mrs 11. Taylor, who always cheerfully gives her services when required. The many friends of Mrs S. Herbison will regret to hear she is an inmate of Royston Hospital, and that, her condition is causing her relatives some anxiety.
