The ordinary fortnightlv meeting ol the Napier Borough Council was held la-t night. His Worship the Mayor. Mr. -L B. Andrew, presided and Crs. li J. Harman. P. Wright, J. M. Callaghan, J. C. Bryant, C. H. Wilkie, R. W. Goodgcr, T. A. Heath, A. Y. Mekarthv and C. R. Spacknian were also present. Leave ol' absence was granted Crn. E. Rice and R. R. Woodcock. GENERAL. L. J. E. Short. A. A. Hastings and Co., Ltd. and the Aard Motor Company were granted licenses to store dangerous goods on their premises. i he application of the Napier Citizens’ Band for a reduction of theatre rent on a recent charity concert was referred to th© Theatre Committee. Hardly 100 people attended and tho Theatre was put to little use. It was decided to make payment of a C3O subsidy to the Napier Citizens' Band and the Napier .Marine Band A letter from the Director of Education asking the Council to refund rates amounting to Cl 19 0s Bd, paid by tho Rev Father Tvmons on tho section used bv the Technical School as a playground was referred to the Finance Committee. Tho Napier Harbour Board notified that the Council's rnte levy lor the current, year would bp £2289 Ils 9d. Additional conveniences for lathes are to b<> erected on McLean Park. The Napier Gas Company’s offer of a modern gas cooker lor the Mother’s Rest was gratefully accepted. BUILDING AND SANITARY INSPECTOR. Mr E. Grant was appointed building and sanitary ins)X‘ct.or lor the Council, and was placed under the supervision of the borough engineer. 'i'lio following duties at present being carried out by the sanitary inspector, were assigned to the assistant traffic inspector, who will he responsible to the chief traffic inspector in carrying out same: —lnspection ot back yards, rubbish receptacles, and leaking water taps, cisterns, etc., fowl houses and fowl yards, storm water drainage. The inspector is to keep all records of inspection made and the appointment of an office junior for this work is to be made.
