ISLAND BOATING FATALITY.
NATIVES’ TERRIBLE VOYAGE. Wellington, March 30. Tho Administrator of Western Samoa has informed the Minister for tho Cook Islands of the receipt of the following message from the- Governor of American Samoa: “Received report from tho naval station ship Tanager, now at Tan (Martua group, American Samoa), that four Polynesians left Penrhyn Island, in the Northern Cook group, for Tahiti on February 22nd. in a sail boat, which capsized on March 9th. They righted the boat next day, after losing food, oompass and mainsail. and then drifted with the wind and current, landing at Tau on March 24th. The names of those in the boat were: Teiho Ford. Akatupuria, Quilt and Hiro Williams, master. Teiho Ford was lost, when the boat broke on tho reef. Have informed American Consul at Tahiti. Will you advise Penrhyn?” Tho Cook Islands Department is arranging for the survivors to be brought to Auckland to await tho departure of tho Hinemoa about the end of April for tho Cook group, including a visit to Penrhyn.
