LIVERPOOL GRAND NATIONAL.
BEST RACE FOR YEARS. London, March 27. A fortnight ago the Hon. Kenneth Mackay, heir to Lord Inchcape, sold Jack Horner, the winner of the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase, to Mr. C. Schwartz, a New York merchant, who had taken a violent fancy to steeplechasing and determined some day to win the Grand National. He gave £4OOO. .for Jack Horner and an additional £2QOO conditional upon his winning the Grand National., Critics class it as in every way the best Grand National for many years. It was a good race throughout. Nineteen out of the 30 starters finished the first round of the course and 14 finished. Casualties among the riders were severe. The rider of Kogo sustained concussion, Lonehand’s rider broke an arm and another had a thigh lacerated by a horse jumping on him.--(A. and N.Z.) — RACING IN AUSTRALIA. WINDBAG AGAIN.
