ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
GUN FATALITY’ AT NELSON. Nelson, Afar. 27. A sad fatality occurred at the Barnham cheese factory between nine and ten o ’clock this morning. The factory manager, Air West, was found shot dead in the secretary’s office in the factory. AVest had borrowed a hammerless gun to shoot some stray cats that had been causing some annoyance. It is thought his not being accustomed ‘ to the mechanism had resulted in the gun being accidentally discharged. The shot entered the body over the heart and death must have been instantaneous. AVest weighed-in the milk this morning, and at about ten o’clock his assistant, not noticing him about* went to look for him. West was übout 28 years of age and had been in charge of the factory since January last year. He came originally from Bongotca, North Island. James Alorley White, aged 70, a resident of Avondale, was found drowned in Oakley creek, Avondale, on Sunday. He had been missing from his home since Saturday morning. H© was found by a search party. It is supposed he was sitting on the edge of the creek and fell in.
