STATE OWNERSHIP.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The owners of motor busses running between Hastings and Napier can hardly expect that the Government will allow them to continue taking th e passenger traffic from the railways, without making a counter move. If Government busses are put on the road between Hastings and Napier 1 cannot see that private owners have anything to “squeal” about. If private ownership challenges a big State enterprise, in which many millions of taxpayers’ money have been sunk, they must expect that the Government will protect the State enterprise. Privately owned busses running between Melbourne and Geelong emptied the State trains, until the Victorian Government put on a fleet of their own busses.—l am. etc „ GIVIS. Hastings. March 29th.. 1926.
