The first will appear in to-morrow’s issue. NOTES. The Wanganui Jockey Club takes - entries for its winter meeting up to 8 o’clock to-night. On Friday next ’i general nominations for the Auckland .. winter meeting and acceptances for ,i the Egmont winter meeting are duo. After passing the post in the second . two-year-old race at Hamilton. Ohine j inuri camo down and her rider, M. Young, had to receive attention. t ' Joe Gray had a nasty fall at Hamil- ‘ ton through a horse he was riding work coming down with him. One leg was badly bruised, but no bone was broken. Tempean, who won a double at Blen- , heim and paid good prices, is by JHyh mettus from Temperance, and runs in 1 ‘ the colours of Mr. F. A. Jensen. Crown Star, who won the big race J of the Marlborough meeting last week, is one of Sir («eorge Hunter’s breed- • trig, being by Crown Imperial—Tattle. Fie now races in the name of the South 6 Island owner Mr. J. Penglase. e The All Black—Crucinella, gelding Black Cruiser, who has run disappoint- . ingly this season, managed to get into a second place at the Hamilton meeti ing. It is said that ho has improved a very great deal since being brained i. in the Auckland district. > Fred Cress seems to have had bail luck with the King Mark—Parula mare Misgovern at Blenheim last week, as she ran second in each of her three starts. On the first day Misgovern came with a rattle at the end of the Autumn Handicap, and just s failed to wear down the favourite, Benmure, who won by a head. On the second she was on each occasion within less than a length of winning. On the first day the stewards admonished and imposed a fine of £2 on H. H. Hobson, the rider of Misgovern, for careless riding. His mount jammed Bink Rose on the rails in the back p stretch. The new racecourse at Masterton 'J was completed last week. It is a ‘‘ chain and a quarter wide, a mile in 0 circumference, and all tho turns are • banked. As the new course at Marton will not be fit for use for some time yet " it is certain that the spring meeting must be held elsewhere. Probably u Feilding or Awapuni will be chosen. '• Much tho bigger attendance would be *• secured at Awapuni, and the few extra P miles would make little or no difference to the Marton people. The Comedy King horse Biplane, a 0 good performer in Mr. G. D. Greon- . wood’s colours, is now at the stud in s New’ South Wales. His first yearlings \ were sold in Sydney at the Easter n Sales and they created a favourable >, impression, one of them realising 525 y guineas. , A well-known jockey was playing as '• a wing threequarter in a Rugby football match at Marton last week (writes - “Early Bird” in the Wanganui - ‘‘Chronicle”), and one of the spectai, tors, not too pleased with the efforts , he was making, shouted: “Look out. . , the stipes are watching you!” , Thoroughbred stock seems to be at

a heavy discount just now in the Dominion. At a sale of thoroughbreds from Mr. John Grigg’s Longbeach Stud, held recently at Invercargill, 20 lots were submitted, and, when it is stated that in no case did the bidding reach tho three-figure shape, it may be guessed that the proceedings were not marked with spirit. One of the lots a four-year-old by Captain from I’oam Lake—was knocked down for five guineas. J. M’Combe contemplated leaving lor Sydney with his team about the middle of this month, but it seems probable that tile trip will be abandoned for the present, Sunny Loch has failed to strike form, which accounts chiefly for tho change of plans. If the horses go on all right, At’Combe may pay a visit to Australia in the spring. When the yearling fitly by Absurd from Yes, bred by A. W. and A. E. Thompson, was offered for sale in Sydney there wag no bid for her. Mr. Inglis would not start her at less than 1000 guineas, and she was passed. Subsequently she was purchased at a high price by Mr. Percy Miller. With second money in tho A.J.O. Plato and first money in the City Tattersall’s Cup on Saturday to his credit th 3 General Latour—March gelding Te Kara will more than have paid his way in Sydney. By running Windbag to a length in the w.f.a, race amd by giving so good a horse as Stony 81b and a beating in the handicap event the Auckland Cup winner has fully justified his owner, Mr. M. H. Tims, in making the journey to the Commonwealth. The form shown at the Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting makes next ‘season’s weight-for-age prospects look very interesting, notes a Wellington writer. Heroic, Spearfelt and Windbag are sufficient to furnish a problem. At a mile or a mile and a quarter it is predicted Heroic will beat the other pair if he jumps away from the barrier. There may not be a great deal between them at a mile and a half, but lieyond that distance Heroic may be beaten by both the other colts. In long races Windbag and Spearfelt are expected to prove superior to the older iiorses next season.
