Heavy showers, alternated with bright sunshine, prevailed on Sunday and at night a g x»d deal of rain fell, hut when this morning came the weather was fine, though leaden clouds overhung the capip. A start was made promptly at 8 o’clock with the 300 yards range of the Auckland Match. The light was dull but steady, and there was not a breath of wind. The shooting was “hot.” Four 49’s were on the boards in a few minutes. If the present conditions hold as the morning progresses there should be many similar scores. Goldfinch, who is tying with Hunt for second place in the aggregate for the King’s Fifty, had hard luck. He became seriously ill on Saturday night, necessitating his removal to hospital. When the shooting closed on Saturday with two matches of the belt series completed, the leading men were found Io be:—Mills (Kiwi) 143. Goldfinch (Wellington) 138. Hunt (Wellington) 13S. 11. Donald (Opaki) 137, Anderson (Kaduna) 137. and W. H. Ballinger (Petone) 137. Three matches, counting for the Trentham Aggregate (all scores at 300, 500, and 600 yards in the P scries) have been fired. Mills. Hinn and Goldfinch load with 234, followed by W. H. Ballinger (234) Donald (232) and Guiney (231). The Wairoa team won the Islington Cup sor the lost five men aggregate in the Tile shooting match of the services series, with a score of 80 out of a possible 125. Gieytown was next with The Rifle Club Champion Teams’ Match, five men aside, counting all scores in the belt series, attracted 2t entries. Petone is leading with 061 points, 10 ahead q( Opaki and Wellington Suburbs, while Linton and Greytown have each 650. R. E. Harrison (Hawera) and J. E. Harris (Linkwater) topped the list in the Auckland Match with 96 each. • Harrison fakes first place with a better card at the long range.
