At the business meeting of the Y’.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary held i-e--cently, tho annual report and balancesheet showed that the work of the Auxiliary had been most successful and satisfactory in every direction. Tho Auxiliary is an integral part of the Y.M.C.A., and its members organise and cater for all social functions, suppers, buffet, etc., and act as hostesses in the rooms during tlie winter session. They have also two representatives on the Board of Directors.

The official recount of the votes polled in the Napier Mayoral and Harbour Board elections was completed last night by the returning officer, Mr A. W Lascelles. In the case of the Mayoral contest there was very little alteration shown but in the Harbour Board election the figures of several candi* dates were changed. Of the three elected condidates Mr Bryant’s total was increased by six, that of Mr Venables was reduced by two, and that of Mr Higgins by one. In the case of the defeated candidates the votes polled for Mr McGrath increased by 47, Mr McLeay by 46. and Mr Pullen by 34. The results are not affected.

At the first meeting of tho Napier Harbour Board to meet Messrs Cullen and Keele. -Mr J. Vigor Brown has given notice that he will move the following notice:—“(l) That the Board clearly define what is meant in the letter of instructions to Messrs Cullen and Keele dated November 14, 1924. (Memo. —This question, to my mind, seems necessary both in fairness to the engineers and in the interests of tho ratepayers in the district). (2) That when reporting, Messrs Cullen and Keele bo asked to give a definite decision as to which harbour they recommend, bearing in mind the economic aspect, which should embrace navigation and maintenance charges. (3) That Messrs Cullen and Keele be asked to define points at which they desire further borings carried out.” In to-days’ issue will be found the Railway Department's advertisement in connection with the Hawke’s Bay races. Suitable train services between Napier and Hastings have been arranged and special fares including admission to course have been provided. There will be holid y excursion fares to Hastings and Napier from Palmerston North and intermediate stations, also day excursion tickets from Dannevirke and intermediate stations to Hastings. Tho latter are at a particularly cheap rate, and intending passengers should secure a railway handbill for schedule of fares. A fast passenger train will leave Dannevirke at 8.15 a.m. on each race day, returning from Hastings at 5 each evening. This train will land passengers at tho course in ample time for the first race.
