SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS. HASTINGS CENTRAL. 'Twelve householders were present at the annual meeting of the Hastings Central School district last evening, Mr. R. Henderson presiding. The annual report stated that the roll was now o/U. Regret was expressed at the departure of Air. L. F. Pegler and other changes that had been made in tile stall - , and reference was made to the success gained in the school efficiency examination. 36 passes being obtained, while Fiilbert Pickett gamed a Junior National Scholarship, llie report also touched on the successful season in swimming and the several championships won, as well as on the success of the annual ball. lhe report was adopted. A. W. Parkinson (chairman), Chas. P. Hopkins. L. A. Deuton. D. T. Gigg, H. Price, R. Henderson. C. G. Cunnold and A. D. Ross. HASTINGS WEST. Air. A. J. Kirkham presided, and about 40 householders were present at the Hastings West householders’ meeting. lhe annual report stated that the roil showed an increase of 37. and that there was a credit balance of £lO. During tiie winter months hot cocoa had been provided free to an average oi 140 pupils bringing their lunch. Owing to the alterations and additions at present being carried out, the general laying out of grounds, new lencing ,etc., had been postponed till the contract was completed. The follow ing committee was elected : —Alessrs. A. J. Kirkham (chairman), A. Christie. J. Wright, W. Warwick, W. Lewis, S. J. iVlcA.ee. E. Ebbett, \V. S. Mitchell. and Jos. Wilson. Air A. Al. Robertson presided over a meeting of about twelve AfaJiora Householders last night when the following school committee was elected:—Messrs F P Coles, T. J. Cowlrick, C Lassen, W. home, J. W. Wise, S. O. Garland, !L. E. Bayliss. E. W. Tate and G. '1 unnicliff Mr Cowlrick was elected chairman. The meeting carried the following resolutions: (1) That the Education De partment and the Board be approached regarding the necessity f“*- remodelling and enlarging the school. (2) That it be a recommendation tn the incoming School Committee to push on with the erection of the school baths, as soon as possible. (3) That this meeting emphatically protests against the continued method of the Education Department in calculating the staffing of the schools the payment of capitation to school committees and the supply of school materials on the average attendance and urges that the average roll number be substituted, instead of the average attendance. A resolution of sympathy was expressed with Air T. B. McNeil, on his recent illness, and the hope was expiessed that he would speedily regain his health, enabling him to take part again in the work of school government. PARKVALE. About fifty householders attended the annual meeting at Parkvale over which Mr S. A. Vyner presided. The following committee were elected for the ensuing year:—Airs Lovell-Smith. Alessrs E. V. Simpson (chairman),, A. R. Glenny (secretary), S, A. Vyner, Al. Cohen, A. Giorgi. A. Stevenson. A C. Fawcett and G. E. Be th. Resolutions regarding the school hours on wet days and in favour of capitation on the roll of the school were carried.

MEETINGS IN NAPIER.

NAPIER CENTRAL. There was a very fair attendance at the annual meeting of householders held in urn Napier central School last evening, the Bov. J. A. Asher presiding. There were twelve nominations fo>the nine positions on the committee, and the following were elected: — Messrs P. Amner, J. Christie, F. Cray, T. H. R. Gifford, G. Gregg, L. Hyde L Pickering, C. H. Reece, and J. C. Thomson. Resolutions were passed referring to the New' Zealand Educational Institute’s circular regarding average roll for school calculations to the new committee ; asking the Education Board to take steps to secure an amendment of the Education Act making it legal for the Board to make provision to meet the special circumstances of the jatteudance of children on wet days, and commending the valuable national work being carried on by the New Zea. land Amateur Swimming Association among the school children to the Government A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring comittee, and especijallv its chairman, Air J. C. Thomson, for their services during the past year, and to the headmaster, Air J. Hislop, and bis staff for their fine work in the school during the past twelve months. A hearty vote oi thanks*to the chairman concluded the business. At the statutory meeting of the newlv-elected committee, Mr J. C. Thomson was elected chairman, and Air J. Hislop secretary. It w/as decider! to hold the regular monthly meetings on the first. Monday of each month. Alessrs Amner and Hyde were appointed a visiting committee for the month. It was decided to hold the annual dance on June 26 and 27, and a sub-committee was appointed to make arrangements for music. NELSON PARK. There were 1G people present at the annual meeting of householders of the Nelson Park School district last night The following committee was elect ed.—Mrs Venables, Messrs G. AV. Venables (chairman), C. W. Corner, C. Dolbel, R. McNiven, AV. Rose, T. Rowe. J. ’ Lambourne, A. Stuart and R Thomas (secretary). It was decided to form a Parents’ League in connection with the school. Resolutions thanking the teaching staff and the committee for past services were carried. HASTINGS STREET. Mr G H. Cooke presided at the Hastings Street School. Thp report and balance sheet, which showed a credit'of £53 Is. were read and adopted. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs

G. H. Cooke, W. J. Duan. G' H. Willis. S. E. Hammond, E. Grant H. AlcKenzie, W. A". Baird, W. Russell, and the Rev. Canon Rice. The resolutions regarding the Swimming Association and "regulations for hours on wet days were endorsed. At a subsequent meeting "of the committee Air G. 11. Cooke was appointed chairman and Mr E. Grant secretary. It was decided to meet on th© thin* Thursday in each month as before. A hearty vote of thanks was recordde on the minutes expressing appreciation of the services of Mr Baird, the retiring secretary, and also the chair man. Mr Cooke, who has occupied the position for many years. A vote of thanks to the retiring committee concluded the meeting, PORT AHURIRI. The annual meeting of householders in the Port Ahuriri school district was presided over by the Rev. W. Drike. The annua] report w'gs adopted and favourable comment was made on the school’s working. No election was necessary as tho nomination did not exceed the number required. The Rev. AV. T. Drake was re-elected chairman. HAVELOCK NORTH. The final meeting of the outgoing School Committee at Havelock North was held last evening. Present —Rev R. Waugh (chairman.), Messrs Ingram. Afillar, Honeybun, Marvcn, Coombe and Henry. The balance-sheet was adonted as read. Air Ingram proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the chairman for the capable and businesslike way he had conducted the meetings during the past twelve months. Mr Marven seconded and the motion was carried unanimously. The chairman suitably thanked the members. There was a very large attendance “f the general public "at the householders meeting which followed. The outgoing committee’s report referred to the scholastic achievements of the school during the year, and congratulated - the staff on the results. In sporting activities the pupils had also acquitted themselves worthily. A .urge sum had been raised for improvements to the school grounds. The committee thanked the local clergy for conducting the Bible lessons, the Education Board and its officials. Air A. E. Joll, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said he wished to take advantage of the opportunity to express the debt of graft ude they all felt to the chairman, who /or the past 12 years had conducted Jieir business so capably. They regretted his withdrawal from the committee. but wished him to feel they had appreciated all he had done. He congratulated the chairman and committee on the excellent condition of the -school property. The Rev R. Waugh said he had been chairman for twelve years, and it was gratifying to hear the householders pass such a resolution as that moved by Air Joll. 'lhe following were elected a committee; —Alessrs Houghton, Heenan, Alan White, Berry, Afillar, Rutherfotd, Weatherley, Lorimer and A. Rich. Only two members of the old’ committee sought re-election—Alessrs Millar and Leicester. Air J. D. Heenan was elected chairnan for tho ensuing year. Air F. R. Redpath w'as appointed secretary vice Air G. S. Harvey, who did not seek reelection. Alessrs Alillar and White were appointed a visiting committee for rhe month. PAKI PAKI. At the annual meeting of Paki Paki householders Air J. Bone presided over an attendance of twenty-one. The following were appointed a committee:— Alessrs. D. Patton (chairman), F. Sut. con AV Brooker, A. Alohi and R. Bateman. MEETINGS IN COUNTRY DISTRICTS. Twyford.—At the annual meeting if householders at Twyford the following committee was elected: Alessrs H. L. Compton (chairman), S. A. Jarvis (secretary), P G, Nicoll, AV. Quinney, and L. Carrington Clive Grange.—Alessrs D. Mills (chairman), A. W. Anderson. G. F. Reeves, L. A. Kyle, J. Gerrard were elected at the Clive Grange household ?rs’ meeting. Pukahu.—The following committee was elected:—Mr. H. Taylor (chairman) Mrs. Goldfinch, Messrs. J. McKenzie. McKeesick and A. Brittin.
