MUSICAL AFTERNOON.

MISS LOCK’S PUPILS. A very interested gathering assembled at the Baptist bcnoolroom, in Hastings on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of a recital by the music pupils of Miss A. M. Lock, L,A.8., wno, assisted oy Miss Airini Lock, presented a charming programme, consisting of solos and duets on the pianojorte interspersed by recitations. The beginners showed not only accuracy, but even character in their playing, which reflected much credit on their instructress and her faculty tor teach, mg In the higher graues the work was excellent, the touch, generally speaking, being delicate, yet pronounced and the interpretation comprehending and sympathetic. The following contributed solos: — Misses R. Small, E. Carpenter M. Goldfinch, G. Florauce, N, Lean, E. Blair, N. Curd, V Cooper, M. Small, F Duff, M. Mossman, M. Bewley G. Eves and Master D. Fickling, Duets were playedby Misses L. and G. Florance, M. Small and E. Blair and D. Fickling and T, Blair. Miss Airini Lock, who assisted in the programme, played two solos and little Miss M. Von Dadelszen delivered two very pretty recitations.

At th© conclusion of the recital, Mrs Blair presented the certificates obtained at the Associated Board examinations by the pupils, whose names have geen already published and in addition. she handed the “Inscribed Badge”, for the year’s work to Miss Gladys F.ves and a second prize to Miss G. Florance, the runner up. The pupils presented Miss Lock with a handsomely bound book, as well as a beautiful bouquet, as marks of their esteem and affection and Miss Lcck, who was quite taken by surprise, returned thanks. The assemblage was afterwards entertained by Miss Lock at afternoon tea.
