NAPIER GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
ENJOYABLE GARDEN FETE, The Napier Girls’ High {School held a most successful garden fete on Saturay afternoon, there being a largo . number present. An excellent programme was presented. I The 3rd Wellington Regimental Band was in attendance, and rendered musical selections during the afternoun. The Orphans’ Orchestra also rendered delightful selections. Marching and dancing items were given by the girls, •and the exercises by tho senior girls were well carried out, reflecting great credit on Miss Wilson, sports mistress. Mrs W. AlcCarthy played the music for the dancing. A tennis match between Misses J. Ringland and F. Williams (old girls) and ALisscs Bennett and Dallas (present girls) was won by tho latter, 6—2. A basket ball mutch between teams from the school and Hukarero school provided interesting entertainment and was witnessed by a large crowd. High {School won after a keen game. Competitions for boys from the High {School resulted as follow:— Egg and spoon race. — Bartle 1, ►Small 2. Wheelbarrow race. —Cornford 1, Tif•feii 2. {Sack race. —Walden 1, Thompson 2, Alorrah 3. I Three-legged race. — Jack and Alorrissey 1. {Simpson and 2. Skipping race.—Walden 1, Thonip’son 2, Chadwick 3. *- | The stalls, which were played in ad * vantageous positions in the grounds, : did lucrative business, the sweet and 'cako stalls especially being sold our. I The elder girls assisted in the stalls, 'which were in charge of the following:—Produce and flowers, Alisses I Bate, ►Smith and Hill; cakes, Airs Ringland, Alisscs Williamson, Bull, F\ i Williams, and J. Ringland; books. Alisscs AlcLean, A. McGlashan ami B. Ward; fancy, Alisses Duncan, Holt and S. Williams; ices, Alisses Ander-
son, Butcher and Fair clough. Afternoon tea was dispensed under the supervision of Mrs Triggs and blisses Tucker and Nelson. i Two concerts were given and varied programmes were offered. Both 'shows were well attended and items were given by the juniors, the orchestra, seniors, Alisses D. Brewster, L. Briaseo and P. Bird. A wireless receiving set was in operation and messages picked up from Santiago, an American station, were plainly heard. Other novelties were also introduced. i Tho following are the results of the 'competitions:—Sweets, Aliss K. Carter, Miss E.' Wilson, Airs Leatham; parasol, Miss Gold; doll, Miss Greig,; stockings, Aliss K. Logan; Mirror, Miss McFarlane; picture, Aliss Kennedy; silver bowl, B. H. Rawley; turkey, Mrs E. Cornford; leather bug, L. Willis; cake, Miss R. Cane; boudoir cap, Aliss Al.. Cuthbertson; bag, Airs H. Tonkin; bag, H. R. J. Bull; bed packet, Miss G. Holt. The organisers are to be congratulated on the niangement of the fete, and by their untiring efforts a, goodly sum should be available for the orchestra and library funds.
