LATE SPORTING.
PAPYRUS IN AMERICA. TRAINERS IMPRESSED. (Received 8, 9.20 a.m.) New York, Oct. 7. Papyrus impressed American trainers when he gracefully ran a mile without urging by the jockey in 1.40. Zev did the same distance in 1.42 under .restraint.—(A. and N.Z.) RANDWICK PLATE. (Received 8, 11.30 a.m.) Sydney, Oct. 8. The press generally pays tribute to the excellent struggle in the Randwick Plate, the honours going to Rivoli for winning, but David and Rapine also sharing the praise for their moral victory. The iihotographs of th© finish mostly show only the near side horse, Rivoli, so closely were the three locked together as they flashed past the judge. As a result of the performance Rapine, it is now understood, is going to Melbourne. The totalisator investments for the A.J.C.. spring carnival were £316,624, against £350,972 in 1922. The reduction is attributed to a smaller attendance following the withdrawal of Beauford and Gloaming.
