HASTINGS MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
TO-DAY’S SITTING. (Before Mr. R. W. Dyer, S.M.) LOITERING VEHICLES. The following defendants appeared charged with allowing motor-cars and other vehicles to stand in the principal streets longer than the time allowed by th© by-law (20 minutes): —Mary J. Piteaithley, Hugh Archibald Wilson. John Hassall, Gladys Guthrie, Ann Mossmau, Wm. Van Asch. F. E. Evans, H. Smith and H. E. Webber. All were convicted. Sergeant Hogan said that these were the first prosecutions of this kind instituted in Hastings, and they were intended as a warning to owners of vehicles that they must comply with the by-law. In the circumstances he did not ask for a penalty and would be content with costs. His Worship said that, in these cases, he would order defendants to pay costs, but in future convictions he would inflict penalties. Each defendant wag ordered to pay 7 s costs. CYCLING ON FOOTPATHS. The following defendants were dealt with for riding cycles on the borough footpaths:—lnn MoLeod fined 5s and costs 7s and Davis Evans and Frank Scott 10s and costs 7s each. CIVIL CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following undefended cases:—A. Simmonds and Co. v. G. Morley, £2 Is. costs 27s 6d; T. Honnor v. Stafford O’Neill, £5, costs 24s 6d; Vidal and Sons v. Lundy, £2 15s, costs 23s 6d: same v. H. Stewart. £3 15s, costs 23s 6d; A. Christie v. D. W. Ellingham, ££l 10s, costs Bs.
Judgment summons: T. Donovan v. F. B. Poppelwcll, £6 4s lOd, to be paid in a month, or default 14 days 1 imprisonment.
