RUSSIAN VENGEANCE
[By Cable.—Preaa Aaiociatlon.—ConyrlghtJ
(Received 15, 9.45 a.m.) Berlin, March 14. A peasant at Chetin, Bessarabia, taking refuge in a cavern from a storm, was horror-stricken on discovering a human skeleton secured by chains rivetted to the walls.
A notebook beside the body showed that the victim was Magdalene Frisch, and revealed that she was a Polish Jewess engaged to Savro, a Russian airman. f Under the influence of Savro she entered the German spy service and later became a Bolshevik spy in Deniken’s and Wrangel’s armies. Magdalene was carrying messages from Savro to the Bolsheviks. Eventually when Savro was wounded papers revealed his and Magdalene’s treachery. Savro was shot and the girl escaped, but was later recognised in the streets of Chotin and kidnapped. Her captors carried her, to the cavern, chained her to the rocks and left her to die from, starvation. The girl wrotb‘’ihe full story, in the notebook, dated October, 1920. Then to escape starvation she took poison, which one of th© cantors had pityingly left.—(A. and N.Z.) '
