DEATH AT THE ALTAR.
TRAGEDY OF FORCED WEDDING. * BRIDE’S ~SUICIDE. (Received 15, 9.45 a.m.) London, March 14. The “Daily Express’s” Geneva correspondent reports the suicide of a bride on the altar steps, which ended the marriage in a Roman Catholic church at Lindau Lake. Constance Fraulein Moser, a pretty 20-year-old girl, took her place beside her husband to be. The priest said: “Wilt thou have this man to be thy wedded husband?” “No. no.’’ replied the girl. “I love another: my parents know it. I would rather die.” She drew a revolver from a satiu satchel concealed in the lillies of her bouquet and shot herself and fell mortally wounded at the priest’s feet. She died as she was being removed from the church. Local opinion is incensed at the parents trying to force the girl to marry a wealthy man twice her age. The girl pleaded to be allowed to break off the engagement. She hoped her parents would relent at the last moment.—(A. and N.Z.)
