POSITION’ OF RAILWAYMEN

Capetown, March 13

In the Assembly Mr. Creswell moved that the action of thy railway servants who went on strike during the industrial crisis last year be condoned and that the Government take into; consideration legislation enabling their absence from duty to be treated as unpaid leave of absence. The Minister of Railways refused to accept the motion, but accepted an amendment by a Government member expressing the appreciation of the House of the conduct of the general body of railway servants during the disturbances. He added that of all the services 412 deserted, 1 of whom 385 were taken back.—(A ; and N.Z.)
