DANNEVIRKE.

Dannevirke experienced a cold snap during the past day or two and heavy rain fell on Monday, but indications pointed to the weather clearing up, and a fine day for the opening of the show. The grounds are in excellent condition and the entries exceed those of last year by ever 200. There are the customary competition attractions for People’s Day on Thursday, and excursion fares are arranged from Napier and Hastings, when a large number ot visitors are expected.
I Saturday last was a collection day l in aid of the Napier Children’s . Homo, organised by a number of young ladies of Dannevirke, and re- . salted in the sum of £4l 2/6 being J collected for this most deserving obi jeet.
'■ An inquest was held concerning ' the death of Miss Ethel Ruth Tqrrey, I who was killed at Terehunga through , falling from a horse, and a verdict ! retuprned that death was due to I concussion of the brain caused by ! the fall. The funeral was held on I Monday and was followed by a very I large number of settlers in the dis- | trict. Great sympathy is felt for tne j parents of the deceased young lady, i who was only 17 years of age. and ! highly esteemed by all who knew 1 her.
