OPENING OF TE AIATA SALEYARDS
The new enterprise of Mr. J. A. Miller was successfully inaugurated yesterday in the opening of the saleyards at Te Mata. 1 There was a very large attendance of farmers. Mr. 2!. J. Tawse, in declaring the yards open, commented on their central position and handiness to Waimarama, settlers being saved considerable droving through town traffic. The yards should prove to be a boon to the farmers in the surrounding district. Mr. Tawse paid a tribute to Air. Aliller’s energy’ in promoting the yards, especially in record time, as from the first suggestion made to him by the Waimarama settlers he had the yards ready and this sale arranged for in eight weeks. Air. Aliller had promoted many other saleyards and when with the Hawke’s Bay Farmers' Co-operative Association he started Otane, Onga Onga, Hampden and Takapau yards. The auctioner had floated and started the Longlands Company, reducing the commission to 3 per cent., the lowest then in the district. Air. Aliller had since started the Aleanee, Puketapu, and Clive (Orwell) yards. In conclusion, Air. Tawse wished the auctioneer every success in his new’ venture. He knew’ that Mr. Miller would spare no pains in the matter, and hoped that they would all support him as fully as they could.
