AN ADDITIONAL AVARD. I At yesterday’s Hospital and CharI irable Aid Board meeting ;• letier j xvas received from the Minister ot I Public Health, advising the Board j that the Government considered 10,lin the £, sufficient subsidy on the valuation of Mr. McHardy's handsome gilt of the Maternity. Home. The Board had further informed the Minister that there had been numerous calls on them owing to the xarious epidemics, anons tliei’© were other aheiations and additions to be made to the Home before it would be quite leadx, a higher subsidy xxould be of great value. The proposed subsidy xxould be all utilised in effecting the necessary work. The chairman stated that the delax- in opening the Maternity Home was due to the fact that the present occupant’s lease xvill not expire for several xveeks yet. In its present state the Hourwould only accommodate about 11 or 15 patients, and as this number ' xvas some what small for the xvliole of the Hawke’s Bay district, it would not only be necessary io make several alterations but to erect an additional ward, thus providing accommodation for at least 30 cases. The nexx- xvard xxould be in brick, and the expense went Id be covered by the 10/- subsidy. It. was wise to have alterations etc. completed before the official opening. It xvas decided 10 empower the building committee to effect the necessarv alterations and authorise the preparation of plans and specifications for the proposed new xvard.
