CLASSIFICATION OF 2ND DIVISION. Dunedin. Feb. 7. The Hon. Jas. Allen stated tonight in regard to military service that instructions had been given to the Defence Department to formulate proposals for classification of men in Division 11. Before any ni“i> are taken from Division 11. those in Division I. whose cases have been adjourned sine die will be reserved by the Military Service Boards and those engaged in essential industries will be left.

Respecting the proposals of the Petone Borough Council. Mr. Allen enumerated what the Government was doing for soldiers and expressed the opinion that its proposals were better than the proposals of the Petone Council. MILITARY APPEALS. WELLINGTON CASES. Wellington, Feb. 7. At the sitting of the Third Wellington Military Service Board, George and James Deunjs appealed against their inclusion under section 35. George had been serving at the forts throughout the war, and though he wanted to enlist the authorities declined to any garrison men to volunteer. The Board dismissed the appeal, but the chairman expressed the opinion that appellants should not have been called up under Section 33 in view of the Minister’s statement that forts men were prohibited from voluntary enlistment. Charles Haddon, farm labourer, was allowed till April 20th. He stated an accident had impaired his health. He had lately married a widow who had four sons serving at the front. ■Sydney Lowe, farmer, appealed on the ground of hardstnp. He was willing to go if lie could be relieved of obligations in respect to his farm. I’he case was adjourned lor four weeks. NAPIER APPEALS. FRIDAY S LIST.
